NA
MAL UYANA
Sri Lanka is a paradise of lush and exotic wonders . One such
haven is the Jathika Namal Uyana ,situated in the village
Ulpathgama (which means village of springs). Jathika Namal
Uyana is a range of seven hills . Among those hills lies the
Pink Quartz ridge shimmering and sparking in the sunlight.
This park is a place where history merges with natural beauty
.It was initially built as a sanctuary for the monks during
king Devanampiyatissa ‘s era. In the 8th century it
was used as an open prison camp where the punishment was to
plant Na trees .
Rich
in biodiversity , Jathika Namal Uyana is home to over seventy
–two different kind of medicinal plants , 18 species
of birds and one of the 14 rare species of lizards have been
found within the park. A Buddhist monk , Venerable Rahula
runs the park. The park runs mostly on funds from several
local donors. A small house with tree rooms has been built
for visitors who wish to stay at the park. If serenity is
what you long for , come experience the wonder and be one
with God’s greatest gift to man- nature at the Jathika
Namal Uyana reserve.
