Aukana Buddha

Aukana is located only few kilometers from the Kalawewa, one of the reservoirs constructed during the reign of King Dathusena (5th century AD), who is beleved to have commissioned this magnificent 12m high statue of the Buddha. The best time to visit Aukana (literally sun eating) is at down, when the rays of the rising sun light the statue with dramatic effect
