Nissanka Latha – Mandapaya

The “flower-scroll hall” or King Nissankamalla (1187-96) is an unique structure, with pillars shaped like lotus stalks with the lotus flower as the capital. An inscription bears witness to the fact that the king listened to ‘prith’ (religious texts) being chanted here. A stone railing made to look like a wooden fence. This place group includes a royal bathing pool just south of the place, and the King’s Council Chamber, with the king’s lion-seat and the names of the king’s ministers caved into the pillars.
