Athletics

Athletics started as a sport in 1980. in 1921 National Federation for Athletics was established in Sri Lanka. World wide attention has been drawn since 1930’s when athletes did, Ceylon, as it was called then, proud, with their participation in international events. With major Duncan White’s great achievement in winning the silver medal in 400m hurdles in London Olympics, the stride in this direction has gradually grown. Susanthika Jayasinghe, created history in being the First Asian female athlete, to win a medal in Olympics.
